Cirencester Cirencester (pronounced /ˈsaɪrənsɛstər/SYE-rən-ses-tər) is a market town in east Gloucestershire, England, 93 miles (150 km) west northwest of London. Cirencester lies on the River Churn, a tributary of the River Thames, and is the largest town in Cotswold District. It is home of the Royal Agricultural College, the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world founded in 1840. The town\'s Corinium Museum is well-known for its extensive Roman collection. The Roman name for this place was Corinium, which is thought to have been associated with the ancient British Dobunni tribe, having the same root word as the River Churn. The earliest known reference to the town was by Ptolemy in AD 150. Cirencester is twinned with Itzehoe, Germany Fairford Fairford is a small town in Gloucestershire, England. It lies in the Cotswolds on the River Coln, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of Cirencester, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) west of Lechlade, and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of Swindon. RAF Fairford is located near the town, as is the Cotswold Water Park. Lechlade Lechlade is a town in Gloucestershire, England. It is located at the southern edge of the Cotswolds. It is the highest point at which the River Thames is navigable. The town is named after the River Leach which joins the Thames near here.The town is a popular venue for tourism and river-based activities. There is a convenience store, food outlets, a garden centre and a \'Christmas shop\'. Near the 15th Century parish church of St Lawrence, in the centre of the town, there is a large open space which is now a car park.
