The East West Rail Link have proposed plans connecting the Great Western Main Line, West Coast Main Line and the East Coast Main Line. The journey would connect Norwich/Ipswich via Cambridge to Oxford and Didcot with optional routes to Bristol via Swindon. They are suspected to commence services in time for the 2012 London Olympics.
The ground itself is on land owned by Swindon Borough Council to whom the club pay rent. Swindon have in the past considered a move to a club owned stadium to generate more revenue, but have not had the financial backing to do so. In 2006 a redevelopment campaign for the County Ground began,[4] with the club and TrustSTFC (the supporters' trust) raising a petition to 'Save Our Home' urging the Borough Council to "facilitate the redevelopment of the stadium and do everything they can to keep the club within the Borough"[5] including the proposed upgrading of the adjacent Cricket Club to County standard and Athletic Club to Olympic standard.

On 23 May 2001 the RAF's first C-17 arrived at Brize Norton, one of six to be delivered to 99 Squadron.
The course of Akeman Street Roman Road that linked Watling Street with Fosse Way passes through the parish just south of the village and through the middle of Windrush Farm. The road crossed the Windrush about 0.5 miles (800 m) east of the village. Traces of a Roman settlement have been found on both sides of the course of the road on low-lying land between Windrush Farm and the site of the Roman river crossing.[2]
